Theme: Urban Landscape
Date: 2nd – 7th June 2014
Venue : Dasein Academy of Art & Kuala Lumpur City Gallery
Neighbour Program 2014 explores Urban Landscape with a focus on the New and Old. Dasein wishes to bring not only the students and lecturers from each college to work together anew, but also hopes to materialise the spirit of Neighbour Programme through texts and visual materials. We are committed to promoting collaboration, sharing, as well as understanding the arts and culture of Southeast Asia based on this experimental theme.
What Is Neighbour Program?
Neighbour is a dialogue, a research as practice project aimed at reconnecting art and design institutions within the Southeast Asian region. Our intention includes forming mutual networks to organise exchange programmes, creating cultural collisions within this potpourri.
We emphasize on art and design within socio-cultural aspect, providing a non-elitist platform inviting lecturers and students from the arts and other expertise to participate, converse and respond to different ideas and dialogues local or foreign. Neighbour is a potential project for different art and design educational institutions to experiment and learn about one another.
What is Urban Landscape?
Urban Landscape goes beyond the scenery or the built forms and interstitial spaces of a city. It may be seen as an organism in constant flux determined by geographical, historical, and activities of its habitants including culture, heritage, economy, religions, politics, environmental and even weather condition. Urban landscape may be considered as the atmosphere and dynamics of everyday life in a city in a wider sense. With a focus on ‘new and old’, we invite members from the Neighbour Programme to consider the changing faces of our cities and explore the theme from different perspectives.
